PARKMAN NEWS—OCTOBER 2024 EDITION ​​ ​​​​ 

  • As of​​ October 1, 2024, all unpaid property taxes are accruing interest of 8.5%.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will meet on​​ Tuesday, October 1st​​ at 5:00 p.m. at the Parkman Grange Hall. ​​ All are welcome to attend.

 

  • The Parkman Town Office will be​​ CLOSED​​ on​​ Wednesday, October 2nd​​ and Thursday, October 3rd​​ so staff can attend the annual MMA Convention.

 

  • The Planning Board will meet on​​ Thursday, October 3rd​​ at 6:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The​​ Parkman Prowlers​​ ATV Club will meet on​​ Monday, October 7th​​ at 5:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office. ​​ It is a potluck, and all are welcome to attend.

 

  • The​​ Parkman Trailblazers​​ Snowmobile Club will meet on​​ Tuesday, October 8th​​ at 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office. ​​ All are welcome to attend. ​​ Please help support the local snowmobile club by joining today. ​​ Applications are available at the Parkman Town Office ($30 for a family, $50 for a business membership).​​ 

 

  • SAD #4 will have an early release day on​​ Thursday, October 10th​​ (11:30 a.m. dismissal time), no school on​​ Friday, October 11th​​ (Teacher Workshop), and no school on​​ Monday, October 14th​​ (Indigenous Peoples Day).

 

  • The Parkman Town Office will be​​ CLOSED​​ on​​ Monday, October 14th​​ in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day.

 

  • The Board of Selectmen will meet on​​ Thursday, October 10th​​ and​​ Thursday, October 24th​​ at 5:30 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The 2025 Dog Licenses will be available on​​ Tuesday, October 15, 2024. ​​ The fee for a male/female is $11.00, and $6.00 for a spayed or neutered dog. ​​ All dogs must be licensed by​​ December 31, 2024. ​​ The State has rolled out a new platform for us to use when registering your dog. ​​ The days of manual dog licenses are no longer. ​​ Please be patient with us during this transition. ​​ This first year will be the most time consuming, as you will need to come in person to register your dog with your current rabies certificate and proof​​ of sterilization if applicable. ​​ You will need to know the weight of your dog, breed and color markings, birthdate or age, microchip information if applicable, and veterinarian information. ​​ We will be unable to process dog licenses through the mail this year. ​​ Reminder letters will go out in the mail in October for those who registered last year. ​​ It is a law in the State of Maine that all dogs six months and older must be licensed, and a $25.00 late fee will apply if not registered by the deadline.

 

  • The Transfer Station is no longer open on Wednesdays. ​​ They are open Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. ​​ Please have your Transfer Station sticker visible to the attendants inside of your vehicle.

  • Youth Hunting will take place on​​ Friday, October 25th​​ and​​ Saturday, October 26, 2024. ​​ Hunting with firearms begins on​​ Saturday, November 2nd​​ for Maine residents​​ and Monday, November 4th​​ for all hunters. ​​ The last day of hunting season for firearms is November 30, 2024.

 

  • The Piscataquis Golf Course/Country Club will be having their 1st​​ Annual Golfin’ Ghouls Haunted Walk and Trunk or Treat on​​ Saturday, October 26th​​ at 4:00 p.m. at 17 Country Club Lane in Guilford. ​​ There will be pumpkin carving/painting and trunk or treating. ​​ At sundown there will be a haunted walk around the golf course with ghouls, goblins, and zombies. ​​ Please note that this could be scary to younger children and is intended for older kids and adults. ​​ Hope to see you there!

 

  • The Parkman Baptist Church will be holding a TRUNK OR TREAT on​​ Thursday, October 31st​​ from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ​​ Kids and their parents are welcome to come get treats. ​​ This event will be at the Parkman Baptist Church and the Parkman Grange will be there with a trunk as well. ​​ If you have any questions, please contact Yvonne Davis at (207) 717-5929.

 

  • White’s Family Redemption​​ is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ​​ They are closed on Sunday and Monday. ​​ They can be reached at (207) 876-2681 for questions and they will take bottles and cans on days they are closed if you call ahead.

 

  • If you need a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate please call ahead to the Parkman Town Office at (207) 876-3730. ​​ The fee is $15.00 for one copy, and $6.00 for any additional copies of the same record requested at the same time.

 

  • The Sangerville Food Cupboard (Universalist Unitarian Church) is open the first and third Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ​​ All are welcome. ​​ They are located at the corner of Church and Main Street in downtown Sangerville. ​​ For more information, please call (207) 277-4221.

 

  • If you are coming in to renew an ATV, snowmobile, or boat, we request that you present a previous registration to ensure the correct machine is registered. ​​ For new registrations, a complete bill of sale or proof of sales tax paid to a dealer is required. ​​ Please note that any ATV measuring more than 65 inches wide or weighing more than 2,000 lbs. cannot be registered in the State of Maine.

 

  • When coming in for any MOSES transactions (hunt/fish, ATV reg, boat reg, snowmobile reg), you must provide a current drivers license or unexpired State ID to a clerk at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ Due to new legislation, no exceptions will be made.

 

  • Proof of insurance is required to register all vehicles. ​​ The Town Office accepts electronic proof of insurance, or you can have your insurance agent email proof to​​ townofparkman@yahoo.com.

 

  • ​​ SAD #4 Santa Project. ​​ Applications will be available in early October through the SAD #4 schools, at the Parkman Town Office, or on the porch of the Parkman Grange. ​​ The program provides winter coats, boots, and toys to local kids. ​​ The deadline for applications will be​​ November 12, 2024. ​​ The distribution will be on December 15th​​ at the Parkman Grange Hall from 10:00 a.m. to Noon.

 

  • When doing a private sale, if there are two names on the prior title you must have both signatures on the back of the title to register the vehicle. ​​ If you are doing a title in two names at time of registration, both parties must be present to sign the title in front of the clerk. ​​ Please note that all vehicles 1999 or newer require a title.

 

  • The Parkman Baptist Church holds worship services every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. ​​ All are welcome to attend.

  • The​​ Parkman Trailblazers​​ are having a Gun Raffle. ​​ Tickets are $10.00 each or 3 for $20.00. ​​ Tickets are available at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ The drawing will be held on​​ Thursday, October 31, 2024.

 

  • Starting May 1, 2025 (next year) when you register or re-register your vehicle, you will receive the new Pine Tree Plate. ​​ If you would like to reserve your current plate number, including vanity and low-digit plates, you are strongly encouraged to do so now by going to any BMV branch office, online at maine.gov/online/reservemyplate, or by mailing in a paper form that is available at the Parkman Town Office or online at maine.gov/sos/bmv/forms. ​​ There is a one time fee of $25.00 to reserve your current plate number.

 

  • The Cambridge Community Clothes Closet is open the first and third Wednesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. ​​ They are located at the Cambridge Baptist Church, 9 North Road in Cambridge. ​​ For more information, please call (207) 277-3234.

 

  • The General/Referendum Election will be held on​​ Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office. ​​ Polls will be open 8:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. ​​ The Parkman Town Office will be closed for business on Election Day and the day after, November 6th. ​​ Absentee ballots will be available at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ If you have already called to request a ballot be mailed to you, they will be mailed as soon as we receive the ballots from the State. ​​
