PARKMAN NEWS—AUGUST 2022 EDITION

  • The 2022 Anterless Deer Permit Lottery Application is available only at​​ www.mefishwildlife.com. ​​ The deadline for entries is​​ August 1,​​ 2022, by 11:59 p.m.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will meet on​​ Tuesday, August 2nd​​ at 5:00 p.m. at the Parkman Grange Hall. ​​ All are welcome to attend. ​​ For more information, please contact Sue Manchester at 277-3942.

 

  • The Planning Board will meet on​​ Thursday, August 4th​​ at 6:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The Board of Selectmen will meet on​​ Thursday, August 11th​​ and​​ Thursday, August 25th​​ at 6:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will be having their Daddy/Daughter Dance on​​ Friday, August 12th​​ from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Parkman Grange Hall. ​​ Young ladies, 13 and under are invited to come with their dad or an important adult in their life. ​​ Admission is $5 per person at the door. ​​ DJ Steve Brody will be​​ spinning tunes and having dance contests. ​​ Light refreshments will be served, door prizes given away, and a keepsake photo will be taken to remember this special evening. ​​ Get out your dancing shoes and come join the fun! ​​ 

 

  • The Bicentennial Committee would like to thank everyone who helped make the Bicentennial Celebration a huge success. ​​ It was a few years in the making with a small committee, and people seemed to really enjoy the day and evening despite the heat. ​​ Thank you to Kirk Kimball for hosting the event, all the crafters who came out, food vendors, the Seavy’s for the horse and carriage rides, Guilford Fire Department for touch a firetruck, Travis Easler for making the Bicentennial Cornhole Boards, Bailey Construction for the sand pile and toy trucks, Ray Stafford Trio Band and Dirty Little Secret Band, and the amazing fireworks display. ​​ Thank you to the Grange for putting on the Bean supper and housing the Historical events for the day. ​​ Thank you to everyone who participated in the parade; it was a huge success as well! ​​ Thank you to all the volunteers who stayed out in the brutal heat; it is appreciated beyond words. ​​ Our small town really came together, and we are forever grateful for all of you.

 

  • Winners of the Minnie Bridge Scholarship were​​ announced at the Bicentennial Bean Supper. ​​ Congratulations to Eben Cooley and Mercy Harper. ​​ They both received a $500 scholarship. ​​ To date, the Parkman Grange and the Bridge family have given away $13,000 in scholarships.

 

  • The Transfer Station is​​ open Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. ​​ Please have your transfer station sticker visible to the attendants inside of your vehicle.

 

  • Building permits are available at the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The fee for a marriage license is $40.00. ​​ Marriage applications are valid 90 days from issue. ​​ Both the bride and groom must sign the application in the presence of a clerk at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ If this is not your first marriage, please bring in a copy of your divorce decree or a death certificate when completing the application. ​​ Please note that you must call the Parkman Town Office at 876-3730 to schedule an appointment to obtain your marriage license.

 

  • Stephen Lackey is the Animal Control Officer for the Town of​​ Parkman. ​​ He can be reached at 343-2013. ​​ He deals with domestic animals only, please call a Game Warden for wildlife issues. ​​ 

 

  • Proof of insurance is required to register all vehicles. ​​ The Town Office accepts electronic proof of insurance, or you can have your insurance agent fax proof to 876-9704 to email proof to​​ townofparkman@yahoo.com.

 

  • The Town of Parkman is now participating in the MOSES program for all recreational licenses and atv’s, boats, and snowmobiles. ​​ You must bring in a valid drivers license and vin number or previous registration for atv’s, boats, and snowmobiles when coming in to register these. ​​ ATV’s have increased this season to $71.00 for a renewal and $72.00 for a new one for residents,​​ and $116.00 for renewal and $117.00 for a new one for non-residents. ​​ ATV’s do not require a title. ​​ If you are registering for the first time, please bring in a bill of sale or proof of sales tax paid from a dealer at the time of registration. ​​ If you are registering a boat for the first time, you will need a bill of sale or proof of sales tax paid at a dealer at time of registration. ​​ Registration fee is based on length of boat and horsepower. ​​ Boats DO NOT require a title.

 

  • The Parkman Baptist Church holds worship services every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. ​​ All are welcome to attend.

  • Update on the Town of Parkman time capsule: ​​ We are​​ going to bury it at the Town Office with a date to be announced, thinking some time in September. ​​ We will have it open to the public to come watch. ​​ Please continue to bring in items for it to the Parkman Town Office. ​​ Thank you.

 

  • Congratulations to Brian​​ Merrill, the winner of the Historical Society’s Bicentennial Dovetail bat. ​​ Congratulations to Vince Bagliani, the winner of the Historical Society’s Bicentennial blanket and pillow.

 

  • Congratulations to the Cornhole Competition winners: Kevin Hayes and Bill Cookson. ​​ They each received a Bicentennial cornhole board made by Travis Easler.

 

  • When doing a private sale, if there are two names on the prior title you must have both signatures on the back of the title to register the vehicle. ​​ If you are doing a title in two names at time of registration, both parties must be present to sign the title in front of the clerk. ​​ 

 

  • The first day of school for SAD #4 is​​ Wednesday, August 31st​​ for pre-k to Freshman. ​​ Sophomores through Seniors start on​​ Thursday, September 1, 2022.

 

  • White’s Family Redemption​​ is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. ​​ They are located on the Crow Hill Road in Parkman. ​​ They will continue to take drop offs outside of these hours, but please call to ensure someone is available. ​​ They can be reached at 876-2681.

 

  • The Town Office still has Bicentennial merchandise for sale: mugs, tote bags, t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, Bicentennial books, long sleeve t-shirts, and koozies. ​​ Come get yours while supplies​​ last.

 

  • The Sangerville Food Cupboard (Universalist Unitarian Church) is open the first and third Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ​​ All are welcome. ​​ They are located at the corner of Church and Main Street in downtown Sangerville. ​​ For more information, please call 277-4221.

  • The Piscataquis Valley Fair will take place on​​ Thursday, August 25th​​ through Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft. ​​ There will be fireworks on Thursday, August 25th​​ at 9:00 p.m. and a Demolition Derby at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28th. ​​ For a complete list of events go to​​ www.piscataquisvalleyfair.com.​​

  • If you need a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate please call ahead to the Parkman Town Office at 876-3730. ​​ The fee is $15.00 for one copy, and $6.00 for any additional copies of the same record requested at the same time.
