PARKMAN NEWS—NOVEMBER 2019 EDITION

  • Don’t forget to FALL BACK and set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 a.m.

 

  • The Referendum Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. ​​ Polls will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. ​​ Voting will take place in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office. ​​ Absentee ballots are available at the Parkman Town Office through 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st without a Special Circumstances application. ​​ Please note that all absentee ballots are due by 8:00 p.m. on Election evening. ​​ The Parkman Town Office will be CLOSED for business on Election Day.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will meet on Tuesday, November 5th at 6:00 p.m. at the Parkman Grange Hall. ​​ All are welcome to attend. ​​ If you would like to help with parties or projects, please contact Sue Manchester at 277-3942.

 

  • The Planning Board will meet on Thursday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • As of October 1st, all unpaid 2019 property taxes are accruing interest at 9%.

 

  • The SAD #4 Santa Project is underway. Applications are available at the Parkman Town Office and through SAD #4 schools. ​​ The deadline to apply is November 8th. ​​ This program provides winter coats, boots, and toys to area children.

 

  • There will a Rabies Clinic on Saturday, November 9th from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the Cambridge Town Hall. ​​ Area residents are welcome to bring their animals for shots. ​​ The fee for a Rabies vaccination is $15.00, and $40.00 for Distemper. ​​ Persons presenting animals are expected to clean up after their pets, inside and outside the building.

 

  • The Parkman Town Office will be CLOSED on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will be holding their annual Hunter’s Supper at the Parkman Grange Hall on Saturday, November 16th at 4:30 p.m. ​​ The meal is by donation to the SAD #4 Santa Project. ​​ The menu includes smothered beef, mashed potatoes, beans, and much more. ​​ The Bicentennial Committee will be having a pie auction, followed by the picking of the 5 Guns in 5 Minutes raffle. ​​ Raffle tickets are still available at the Parkman Town Office, KC’s Country Store, Lovell’s Hardware, Herring Brother’s Meat Market, Mountains Sporting Goods, and at the supper.

 

  • The Board of Selectmen will meet on Thursday, November 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • White’s Family Redemption has a temporary change in hours for Hunting Season effective Thursday, October 31st (for about 6 weeks). ​​ They will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from Noon to 4:00 p.m., Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon, and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ​​ Sunday is the only day for uncounted collections, otherwise please drop off. ​​ Closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. ​​ Please call 876-2681 with any questions.

 

  • The Bicentennial Committee will meet on Tuesday, November 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office. ​​ Anyone interested in planning the 200th Birthday Celebration for the Town of Parkman is welcome to attend this meeting.

 

  • The Transfer Station is open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.

 

  • The 2020 Dog Licenses are now available. ​​ Reminder letters were sent out in October. ​​ If you would like to do your dog license renewal via mail, please remember to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope so we can send you the new tag. ​​ The fee for a male/female is $11.00, and $6.00 for a spayed or neutered dog. ​​ All dogs must be licensed by January 31, 2020 or a $25.00 state mandated late fee will apply.

 

  • The Parkman Town Office will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

 

  • Hunting with firearms begins on Saturday, November 2nd for Maine residents and Monday, November 4th for all hunters. ​​ The last day of hunting season for firearms is November 30th. ​​ Muzzleloader season is December 2nd through December 14th and the cost for a muzzleloader license is $14.00. ​​ The 2019-2020 Hunting Law books are available for download at www.mefishwildlife.com.

 

  • Sonia Sanborn is the Animal Control Officer for the Town of Parkman. ​​ She can be reached at 876-3000 (h) or 343-0455 (c). ​​ Sonia deals with domestic animals only, for wildlife issues please contact a Game Warden.

 

  • Proof of insurance is required to register all vehicles. ​​ The Town Office accepts electronic proof of insurance or you can have your insurance company fax proof to 876-9704 or email proof to townofparkman@yahoo.com.

 

  • The 2020 snowmobile registration and stickers are now available. ​​ The fee for a renewal is $46.00, and $47.00 for a new registration. ​​ Non-resident snowmobile registrations are $100.00, non-resident 3-Day is $50.00, and a non-resident 10-Day is $76.00.

 

  • The Parkman Baptist Church holds worship services every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. ​​ All are welcome to attend.

 

  • The Universalist Unitarian Church of Sangerville and Dover-Foxcroft Food Cupboard is open the 1st Wednesday and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ​​ All are welcome. ​​ Patrons may come to one distribution per month. ​​ They are located at 130 Main Street in Sangerville (corner Church Street and Main Street).

 

  • If you need a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate please call ahead to the Parkman Town Office at 876-3730. ​​ The fee is $15.00 for one copy, and $6.00 for any additional copies of the same record requested at the same time.

 

  • The Motor Vehicle Mobile Unit hours in Dover-Foxcroft: ​​ The 1st and last Wednesday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to Noon & 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall (112 Park Street, Dover-Foxcroft).

 

  • The Parkman Baptist Church holds a DELTA Kids Club for 1st through 6th graders on Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. ​​ This is a FREE program to area children. ​​ There are fun activities, Bible stories, games, crafts, snacks, and more. ​​ For more information or to register your child, please contact Yvonne Davis at 717-5929 or Kylee Coburn at 717-0865.

 

  • If you would like to help with the SAD #4 Santa project, there are many ways to help. ​​ Angel trees will be set up at KC’s Country Store and Hardwood Products where you can pick out a star with a child’s request and shop for that. ​​ Donations can be made by check to the Parkman Grange, PO Box 114 Guilford, ME ​​ 04443. ​​ If you enjoy knitting or crocheting hats, mittens or scarves, those can be included for extra warmth to area children. ​​ For other ways to help please contact Sue Manchester at 277-3942.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will hold its annual Kid’s Christmas Party on Saturday, December 7th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ​​ See December’s issue of Parkman News for more information.

 

  • Inland Fisheries and Wildlife requires patrons to bring in a valid driver’s license or State ID when obtaining a Hunting/Fishing License. ​​ You must also show your driver’s license when obtaining a Snowmobile Registration.

  • New Law from Title Division: ​​ When doing a private sale, if there are two names on the prior title you must have both signatures on the back of the title to register the vehicle. ​​ If you are doing a title in two names at time of registration, both parties must be present to sign the title in front of the clerk. ​​ 

 

  • Fire permits can be obtained at KC’s Country Store from Pam Sukis: 876-4111, and from Danny White at 85 Crow Hill Road: 876-2681.

 

  • The fee for a marriage license is $40.00. ​​ Marriage applications are valid 90 days from issue. ​​ Both the bride and groom must sign the application in the presence of a clerk at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ If this isn’t your first marriage, please bring a copy of your divorce decree or a death certificate when completing the application. ​​ Please note that you must call the Parkman Town Office at 876-3730 to schedule an appointment to obtain your marriage license.

 

  • The State of Maine Legislature increased registration clerk fees for motor vehicles from $3 to $5 for renewals and from $4 to $6 for new registrations. ​​ Duplicate registrations were also impacted with an increase from $3 to $6.
